The menopause or a woman’s change of life is a perfectly normal event which occurs in the mid or late forties. It signifies the end of the female reproductive period of life which commenced at adolescence in the early teens. There are several misconceptions about menopause.

As women are growing old, they feel that they are well past their full physical vigor during that period. Some women feel that menopause has stop their sexual pleasure, but these apprehensions are far from true. Although menopause may be considered an end to women’s fertility, however it is certainly not to her virility. It should not decrease a woman’s sexual vigor or enjoyment or physical capacity.

Some of the Menopause Symptoms

The entire chain of endocrine glands is disturbed during menopause, particularly the thyroid, gonads and pituitary. The menopausal change takes place without any unpleasant symptoms in a really healthy woman. However due to dietetic errors and a faulty style of living, there are many women who do not enjoy good health.

In these cases, the menopausal change often leads to all kinds of emotional, distressing physical, manifestations and nervous symptoms. Night sweats, hot flashes, nervous tension, insomnia, menstrual disturbances, diminished interest in sex, depression and irritability are the typical symptoms of menopause. Other symptoms are chilly feelings, palpitation, fatigue, headaches, dizziness and numbness.

Not every woman will get these severe reactions. The severity or otherwise of the symptoms depend on a variety of factors such as general health, previous surgery and radiation. Menopause and its problems are usually over when menstruation stops.

Causes of Menopause

When the ovaries are no longer producing their normal amount of estrogen and the dominant female hormone, the annoying symptoms associated with menopause will happened. These symptoms also may caused by anything which interferes with the normal functioning of the ovaries. If the ovaries are removed by surgery because of disease, the same strange feelings also may occur. This can also result from the use of radiation or heavy X-ray therapy.

A lack of normal hormone balance may also result in a severe backache. This is caused by thinning of the bones arising from the low level of estrogen in the bloodstream. Unless properly treated, this may eventually lead to a collapse of one or more of the vertebrae.
