Even though it is something that all women know is going to take place in their life, it can be a shock when menopause finally becomes a part of their life. It can be a confusing time as some women do not know when they have actually entered into this phase of their life.

While the typical age for menopause is fifty-two, it can happen anywhere between the ages of forty-two and fifty-six. A woman can confidently say that she has begun her journey of menopause if she has gone an entire year without a menstrual cycle.

The chief concern with menopause is weight gain, but other conditions like insomnia, joint pain, dry eyes and hotflashes also are a concern. Many women find that they gain twenty pounds or more during menopause. Those who chalk it up to being okay as it is just a part of a change of life, it is not okay. Weight gain as a result of menopause can lead to many other health risk.

There is the risk of lower back pains, diabetes, high blood pressure, and possible heart problems. Weight issues should be a quickly taken care otherwise it can be life threatening. You can be one step closer to a healthier lifestyle just by making healthy choices and watching what you eat. This is only the start, you will also have to ensure you are getting the right amount of exercise in, so eat right and exercise.

If you’re not used to an active lifestyle, walking, running and swimming are great ways to get your body in motion. You’ll want to add some weight training to your routine once a little time progresses and your body gets used to the exercise. You do not have to bulk up but you will want to burn more fat and add a little lean muscle. There is nothing wrong by being guided from other sources, such as joining a local gym and benefiting from the personal trainers that they have on staff.
